A very fine matched pair of Qing Dynasty lacquer and incised walnuts. Matched of similar size, each naturally formed with a two-segment shell with a wrinkled surface, divided by bipartite vertical ribs incised with fine veins, attractively patinated to a deep brown with slight reddish overtone. The matching of these walnuts is very close in both dimension and pattern. 36.7mm by 34.5mm and 37.5mm by 34.6mm, respectively (less than a 1mm difference between them). Each weighs approximately 15 grams. When rotated in the palm of your hands, the tone of each walnut offers a harmonic calming effect. This practice was popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and is becoming more popular today. I trust the photos are descriptive of these items.
